Both gold and platinum metals are favorites of men. You can choose either gold for less price and platinum for high quality.
Platinum and gold are always men’s favorite metals to make a wedding ring. Platinum with diamond –this composition lasts forever. Platinum is world’s most precious metal for its glow and durability. It is 60 times heavy than 14 karat gold and it virtually does not get any scratched. When used for jewelry, platinum is always alloyed with a second metal to give it strength, hold a high polish, and resist scratching. What is considered to be pure platinum actually contains no more than 5 percent alloy, and is often marked “.95 Plat” inside the band. Platinum with 10 percent allow can also be purchased, and may be marked as “.90 Plat” or similar.

Another reason that men’s platinum wedding rings have become so popular is that the metal never tarnishes. Its intense luster will remain intact over the years, despite everyday wear. Further, it is not vulnerable to problems like stress corrosion or cracking.

Just like diamonds, platinum is a very rare material. If all the platinum ever mined were compiled, it would only produce a cube 17 feet on each side – less than 5,000 cubic feet. In addition, it takes up to 10 tons of ore to produce one ounce of platinum, which is more than twice as much ore that is typically needed for one ounce of gold.

Pure gold is too weak to be used for jewelry purposes, so it is always alloyed with at least one additional metal to ensure strength and durability. Pure gold would be 24 karats, but most man gold wedding rings will either be 14 karats or 18 karats. When a ring is marked as being 14 karats, that means that it is approximately 58.3 percent gold is there, and whereas an 18 karat ring is 75 percent pure gold. Obviously, an 18 karat gold ring would be more susceptible to wear and tear, as it is more gold, and thus weaker than 14 karat gold.

Some man gold wedding ring purchasers may prefer a more silver tone to their ring. For them, white gold is the answer. White gold is simply yellow gold that has been treated to look white (or silver). In order to make the yellow gold appear white, elements such as nickel, palladium, or silver are added. While nickel itself can give a good white gold appearance, it is often allergenic and can cause skin problems to anyone who is sensitive to nickel. Gold that is alloyed with palladium and silver will not usually cause allergies, and most 18 karat gold is alloyed only with these two metals.

Comparing white gold, yellow gold is far better than white gold. With time white gold begins to look like yellow gold as the properties of white gold are same to that of yellow gold. You have to re-plate the white gold in order to save its prior color and quality with time. This problem you will not have with yellow gold as it is natural and normal. To say about durability white gold ring and yellow gold ring do not have that type of durability like other metals like platinum but still it is same popular among men and women to make a wedding ring for the special occasion.
