A Craigslist for College Kids
Barefoot Student is a new website that tries to make the "lean and hungry" years of college a little fuller by hooking up college students with extra cash during the school semester, internships during the summers, and a juicy prime rib job at the end of it all.
The site does this by providing college students with a platform to market their odd job businesses. Each student is given a free web page on which they fill in the details about their own personal background and their service, rates, and availability.
Student services vary from moving labor, landscaping, and graphic design to pet sitting, babysitting, and house sitting. Many students opt to offer an "odd job" service as a catch- all, can-do-all category. Students charge from around ten dollars an hour to up to fifty dollars per hour.
Community members can browse for students for hire by city and category. The format of the site is very similar to craigslist although it has a little more of a "social networking" student oriented design. A major difference from craigslist is that people can leave feedback on a student"s page for others to review. No sign in is required to view student profiles.
Students that choose "steady" employment during their college life can find it on Barefoot Student"s job board. The site offers a fast and easy way for students to find part-time jobs, summer jobs, volunteer opportunities, and short term gigs. A resume posting category is also available.
College students that work hard can make it to the dreamed about payday; a real job. Barefoot Student"s job bank has the nine to five option covered. Career jobs abound with entry level opportunities posted by large corporations, government, and local businesses.
Unlike some of the bigger job boards such as monster jobs, snag a job, and yahoo"s hot jobs, the owners (recent grads) have kept the site informal as possible. "College students are looking for more style and less red tape. We envision a student work portal that is in tune with both college students and employers, is easy to use, and that simply works" said one co-owner.
Students that don"t want to "work their way through school" have another option. Apply for more scholarships. Scholarship opportunities can be found on Barefoot Student. Barefoot Student is also putting together a plan to create a "student debt prevention" scholarship fund to raise awareness about the current student loan and debt crisis.
A unique feature Barefoot Student promotes is a "sponsors" category that functions as a potpourri of items that both companies and individuals have posted for college students to find. The category offers an opportunity to reach college students with anything from a professional service, the latest musical hit, or an apartment for rent.
Barefoot Student undoubtedly makes the perfect job search much easier to execute and the perfect job much easier to find. From the high life in college to the high salaries of the successful graduate, students will appreciate the benefits that Barefoot Student brings to the bargaining table.
