The college and its mission:
Northern Marianas College was established in the year 1982 by Agnes McPheteres. The principle aim of the college is to render quality education to the students in and out of Common wealth. The knowledge transfer is performed in various sectors under post secondary and distant education schemes. Training to the students is given with an intension to prepare them for further education as most students prefer a higher education after the two year course in NMC.
About the college:
The college is running with its three campuses spread across Saipan, Tinian, and Rota, the campus at Saipan being the first and the main campus. NMC is accredited under the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. NMC is a college mainly offering two year course for the students, though it has a School of Education that offers bachelor"s degree. The students from other nations can procure visas from CNMI through the collaboration between the NMC and the CNMI government. The enrollment never demands an entrance qualification from the students who mainly constitutes the natives of Asian countries.
Admission procedure:
Students can be enrolled in the college for courses based on whether they are meeting the criteria set for the particular course. The student must have the qualification as mentioned in the hand book. The rules governing the enrollment are under the governance of the admissions and records department. They handle the regular and special cases of enrolling students to the various departments of the institution.
Courses and facilities:
The class rooms are capable of including a maximum of 15 - 25 students. But often the enrollment officers try to accommodate more as per the demand. A generally scenario found among the students of NMC is applying for a higher education from the reputed universities of Guam or Hawaii. It is not a difficult matter for them to secure a career in any of the CNMI sectors. The college offers courses under various courses like business, human performance, athletics, nursing etc. The distant education program was started primarily to give language training in English for the denizens of Asian countries. This is a course where English can be chosen as the second language for these students.
NMC handle several courses for adults also. Such courses primarily include community training and business classes. These are given on long term duration and intend at the growth and community development for the inmates of the Northern Mariana Islands.
The library is set up to function on a regular basis to assist not only students but also faculty members. The library has division with special collections on its own to assist the students. Apart from these facilities, there is counseling given to the needed students. The staff of the college essentially handles this sessions. The extra curricular activities are under the responsibility of the teachers of the college. The financial and enrollment procedures are taken over by a separate set of staff intended to perform these duties.
Student services:
The services intended to assist the students are divided under various heads to smoothen the operations. The students are enrolled through the admission procedures. Students who are eligible can apply for financial aids and the college will look into the relevance and carry out the needed action. Academic assistance and support programs are delivered as and when required and a body of staff members is assigned the task of carrying out this.
Mode of fee payment:
The courses are imparted with a fee for the tuition and maintenance expenses. The fee payment is solely under the disposal of the Board of regents. A regular and general procedure of payment is at the point of registration. Payment of fee at the proper time without delay or failure is necessary to prevent the student from getting discontinued from the course. There is flexibility for students receiving special fee concessions or financial aids.
