Who wouldn"t want a Pussycat Doll-like girl band running around Asia ? The Pussycat Dolls have been a hit all over the world, and many have yet to follow in their footsteps. This might not be a problem for Asian fans as founder Doll Robin Antin is currently into talks about creating an Asian version of the burlesque group inspired by a cabaret act in a Hollywood nightclub. In fact, she is overwhelmed by how the people of Singapore received the Pussycat Dolls the last time they flew into the island nation. Thus, she chose Singapore among other Asian countries to be the birth place of the Asian Dolls, if she decides to push through with the project.
"We"re hoping to have one in Singapore ," Antin said in a conversation with Today. "So, if we have one in Asia , we want it to be here. We"re working on that...I think 2008 is going to be a very big year for everything I"m doing ... If I come to Singapore , I"ll have the Singapore version of Pussycat Dolls there. We"ll see what happens. You never know what I"ll be cooking up."
Aside from her tentative girl band making, Antin is also busy working on her upcoming series, Pussycat Dolls Present: Girlicious, which will cast three girls to form a new pop/R&B girl group. The reality series will premiere on Monday, February 18 at 9/8x on CW and will be airing encore episodes every Wednesday at 9/8c.
"I wanted to create a new group that was inspired by the Pussycat Dolls. I must say they"re the most incredible group of girls — they sing their butts off, they"re amazing dancers. I think people are going to love it," Antin said of Girlicious.
Moreover, she said that there isn"t any competition or comparison between Girlicious and the established Pussycat Dolls because she says that the two are like sister acts.
"They dance, sing and they"re super sexy. I can"t do that different — I have to make them sexy," Antin said.
