Perhaps it will take some centuries to come before African Leaders realize that the so-called developed Nations are not their friends as they misleadingly think. Only this realization will advance the continent. History is fast proving that over dependence on USA, Britain and France politically and economically is the quickest road to under-development and self destruction.
Of all the continents in existence, Africa is the worst affected. African Leaders erroneously conclude that their last hopes rest with these so-called bid countries of the world. The Arab world has since realized this and has continued to come under attack by these big countries.
Last year the international court of Justice, in its erroneous judgment ruled that the long disputed Bakkassi region between Nigeria and Cameroon belonged to Cameroon courtesy of negative and inimical exploits of France assisted by the USA, Britain and Germany. Britain on its part has since lost its magic and only identification will the USA, she believes will give her a return of recognition among the comity of Nations.
It is interesting to note that all of these so called developed nations constituted the judges of the ICJ at the time, in a matter they were all concerned whether directly or indirectly. Germany was the first colonial master of Cameroon before its disgraceful defeat by the allied Nations in the WWII. Britain colonized Nigeria and won the territory of Bakkasi with a deceitful treaty entered into with the Illiterate chiefs of the region; Britain was to transfer the territory later perhaps to Germany while France inherited it, no thanks to UNO.
The ICJ gave its ruling even without undertaking a physical visit to the territory in dispute in order to conduct a plebiscite which would have determined the opinions of the indigenes of that area as if their opinions did not count. Worse still, the ruling clearly stated that the people were Nigerians while the territory belonged to Cameroon otherwise, how come the people had the right to decide whether to belong to Nigeria or Cameroon?
What happens to their monuments, graves, relic museums if relocated to Nigeria? Has the ICJ have seen a territory devoid of indigenes? What is the interest of France? Why would Britain readily abandon Nigeria her former colony? Only time will teach African Leaders that the shackles of colonization are not yet off their fists.
