Got the warm market blues? I don"t blame you. If you"re in the 98% of network marketers who are currently failing in their MLM business venture there is something you ought to know about warm marketing and why it"s not working for you.
So put the ol" memory jogger away and make yourself comfortable, we need to have a little chat about the painful facts of warm marketing and why it leaves you cold, lonely and broke.
First off what is the first thing your upline tells you to do once they"ve signed you up and congratulated you on your wise business decision?...this is not a trick question now people...that"s right - "Write a list of 200 people, call them up, and tell them why you"re so danged excited!"... This is not training folks, and it rarely ever works.
So why do they teach it and why doesn"t it work? Those are great questions; lets go back to the early days of MLM and take a look at the old business model:
Starting in the mid 1950"s, a distributor couldn"t even sponsor another distributor until they had at least 25 customers under their belt. Which meant that a newbie couldn"t sign up a fresh distributor until they had enough skill to pass some of the "know how" on to a new recruit, thus encouraging people to train their sales force and in effect "duplicate" themselves. Pretty good idea...
However 20 years later many of the companies started to push their distributors to sign up as many new reps as possible without the benefit of having to learn how to get customers first. The emphasis had shifted from getting new customers to getting new reps instead, and it wasn"t long before the industry was flooded with brand new bright eyed distributors with very few getting the training they desperately needed.
The easiest way to deal with this problem was to turn to the old warm market, 3 foot rule and 3 way calling with your upline, because as a newbie you may as well drive into traffic with a big sign on the top of your car that reads "Student Driver"...everyone wants to avoid that guy (I give them a nice big berth) So who the heck would want to take driving lessons from him?
Not me...
Now we"ve all gotta" start as a newbie in anything that we"ve never done before, but to "train" a new rep to make that warm market list and actually call people you know (and who also know you by the way) and try to convince them that your new business opportunity is the answer to all THEIR money troubles...not only that, but YOU are going to personally help them do it!
Really...this is as effective as closing your eyes and making a big wish right before you toss a nickle into a fountain.
You"re really asking your so called warm market to suspend their belief in what they already know about you in order to pretend that you are now suddenly the next Donald Trump...this truly is beyond most sane people"s ability...I must say.
So, now that the MLM business model has become so greed driven rather than product driven we are left with a "Get rich quick" mentality that turns most people off.
This is too bad for several reasons; not the least of which being that many of the finest products and services in the world are sold using the MLM business model, but due to the greed factor most MLM detractors use it as proof that these great products and services somehow have no credibility because they are being sold by "brain washed cult driven loonies"...and many believe them.
Fortunately there are much better ways to market your MLM products, services and even your opportunity, none of which require you to ever look at your "memory jogger" or call your friends or family for any reason other that to say hello and get a dinner invite, it"s a technique known very well by all the big dogs in your company...it"s called positioning.
Learn to position yourself as the leader in your business. One of the first things you can do to position yourself is to stop positioning your upline by doing three way calls to them.
I hope you don"t mind my being bluntly honest with you, but ask yourself, why would anyone follow a person who has to go running to their up line like a little toddler looking for help from Mommy on a 3 way call?
Yes, yes, I know all about the "Use an Expert" thing, and I know how it"s supposed to work, but gees" think about it...does it really make sense? Of course not, who would you rather learn how to walk from, the toddler or the Mommy?
Please tell me you said the Mommy...You see Mommy not only has the experience and expertise in walking but she also knows where the Ouch-less band aides are kept should you skin your knee.
A new prospect is no different... they want a leader they can count on to really show them how to do a serious home based business...Learn the secret to Positioning, and your well on your way to becoming successful in network marketing.
