» Where the Birth of the Vaginal Douches Started to Make Sense

In the olden days way back, douche solutions were stronger and in the case of some solutions, were likened to disinfectants. And this is really where the birth of the vaginal douches starts to make sense. Instead of believing that the vagina was a self-cleaning organ, the manufacturers of vaginal douches and other such people believed that a orifice such as the vagina with its constant interaction with the world around it so to speak, could be nothing but unclean. After all how likely was it that women cleaned out their vaginal cavity everyday?

And since this seemed highly unlikely to many people who decided to give this some thought, the thought also occurred to them that such a dark, damp place could naturally enough become a hotspot of activity for various germs and bacteria to reside. Obviously the thought that maybe the vagina had existed all these years with hardly any problems on its part, was largely ignored. What amounted to a disaster had to be circumvented. There had to be a way of ridding women of the uncleanly germs they were in all probability harboring.

Into this breach of potential disaster steps in the vaginal douches, and the rest as they say is history. The vaginal douches were born to rid women of the many bad odors and other such unsavory things that could possibly be living inside their vagina.
To that end the vaginal douches bag, or other vaginal douches device, squirted a stream of water or solution, with some pressure behind it, into the vaginal cavity.

This was intended to clear out anything and everything that might be clinging to the walls of the vagina. Needless to say the vaginal douches worked perfectly. It cleared out anything and everything in the vagina. So much so, that some women believed that it was also an effective birth control method. Off with the condoms and pills, and on with the vaginal douches!

The only problem with that is the fact that there"s only a 15-25% chance that the sperm will get flushed away with the vaginal douches water. In fact there"s an even better chance that some of the sperm will be forced higher into the cervix, thereby giving a greater chance for pregnancy. Then again, the converse is also true. If you"re trying to get pregnant then you might significantly decrease your chances for doing so.

The stream of water that is employed in the douching process will also more than likely destroy the natural pH balance of your vagina. And it"s when this pH balance is disturbed that all kinds of untoward things can happen, like yeast infections. So why do women do it? That"s a good question and something that only those women can answer for themselves. There"s also the fact that they might not be aware of the fact that vaginal douches regularly produces an imbalance in the vaginal pH levels.

And let"s not forget that once you get into the habit of doing something, and believing into the bargain that it works for you, it"s hard to break yourself out of that compulsion. Although vaginal douches can be potentially harmful to you and your health, they can also be used in a manner that"s purely medicinal. In these cases you would generally use something that is either doctor-prescribed or a natural remedy that has been tried and tested over time by many women.

One thing that you want to remember though, is that if you"re going to see your doctor or physician about your yeast infection, or any other vaginal problem, you should not douche before you go to the appointment. This could flush out valuable information that could be gathered from your vagina, information that could help your doctor to diagnose your condition accurately.
