Walnut has an endearing character when compared to most types of wood. Also, walnut flooring add to the value of the house for those who are planning to prepare their property for selling.

Walnut flooring is beautiful because of its distinct character. However, those who are not quite familiar with this type of flooring material should try to know a little bit more about walnut flooring before considering investing in it.

Walnut flooring characteristics

One of the best things about walnut is that it has a dark tone. Walnut is deep and rich which manages to instantly create an elegant yet cozy atmosphere in any room where it has been installed. In some types of walnut floors, highlights can be occasionally found which are created through light sprays of light colored wood.

Walnut floors have a very distinct dark pattern which swirls and sets apart every single plank while still making it look a part of the whole floor. Walnut floors have a very fluid grain and are eye soothing which makes them very pleasant. However, probably the best feature about walnut flooring is that it can blend in easily with rustic, traditional as well as formal settings. Walnut is real wood, and so it is very durable and hard. Walnut floors last for years.

Types of walnut flooring

Walnut flooring is available in engineered wood as well as solid wood. Solid walnut flooring is made from solid wood. The boards are made from a solid, single piece of walnut and will have to be nailed down. These boards can be refinished easily if at all they get scratched or damaged. Solid boards will have to be laid down on a subfloor which is not concrete.

Engineered walnut flooring is made from three or five layers of wood. The top layer is made from real walnut and the layers beneath that are made from plywood. This type of flooring can be floating or canf be glued down. Engineered flooring can be installed even over concrete. Engineered walnut flooring is also not as expensive as solid wood flooring. However, this type of flooring can not be refinished very often when compared to solid wood flooring so those who are looking for a long lasting flooring should always opt for solid walnut.

There are several different species of walnut available. The most popular ones are Brazilian, American and Asian. When choosing between these three species of walnut it is best to look at each type of walnut and see which one is more eye catching and appealing. The wood’s hardness is measured through Janka rating. Check this rating to see how hard the wood is. The harder the wood is, the more durable it would be. Also, the grain and the character of all of these three types of wood will be different so you would have to look at them carefully
