Blackberry has announced a sleek and stylish Tablet –The Blackberry Playbook. The Blackberry Playbook has a bezel design with a rubberized finish and has a 7 inch screen. The build quality is quite good. It has a small round power button on the top central position. It supports a 1 GHz dual core Texas Instruments OMAP 4430 SoC and runs on BlackBerry tablet OS.
It offers Bluetooth and USB Connectivity. The tablet has a sleek design and supports just a single button on the top edge. You can swipe across the screen to get the menu options. Apps have been categorised into All, Favourites, Media and Games.
You can easily access the virtual keyboard by swiping upwards from the bottom left corner or wake the Playbook just by swiping across the screen from end to end. There might be a challenge for a newbie. The fact that you can easily use the tablet features just by swiping across the screen is pretty cool. We found the OS very fast and responsive.
The virtual keypad is easy to use with smooth typing interface. The USP of the device is multi tasking. Blackberry Playbook makes multitasking a breeze even when you compare it with an iPad. It supports a 7 inch LCD Display screen with 1024x600 pixel WSVGA resolution. The screen is very clear with vivid and crisp colors. The surprise was that BB has not provided any native email client for the Playbook!
You have a unique feature called the Blackberry Bridge that allows you to sync your BB Smartphone with the tablet. The BB Bridge lets you enjoy al your messages, emails and contacts easily on a bigger screen.
The Blackberry Playbook supports a primary 5MP camera that clicks decent pictures outdoors but indoors you will find unwanted noise in most of your images. It does not have Flash so in dim light conditions the pictures are very poor.
We found the Video playback was flawless and supported various formats like .AVI, .MOV, .WMV apart from MKV. The Glossy surface of the playbook tends to reflect back if you are watching dark scenes. The Battery life of the Playbook was a day and a half on moderate usage. However this considerably reduces if you use the playbook to watch1080p video or connect it with an HDTV via a HDMI out option. The charging time is also quite high.
Priced at Rs. 27,990 the BlackBerry Playbook 16 GB WiFi version is the same as the Apple iPad2. The BB Tablet is ideal for a Blackberry user who wants to buy a tablet. However, we would say to the potential buyer to wait till the Android apps will be made available in BB.
