Cleaning bathrooms is not the best chore any homemaker likes doing. However no matter how much you may despise the chore, it has to be cleaned at least once a week, or more if you have a large family.
Basically, bathrooms have materials that are easy to clean. Its tiles and porcelain surfaces are usually stain resistant and don’t allow any build up of dirt and scum on them.

To make the chore of cleaning bathrooms easy, make sure everyone rinses the tub or shower stall immediately after using it. They just have to make it a habit to spray water on all interior surfaces, swish some soap around the tub using a damp sponge and then give a final rinse. This way the accumulation of scum on the bath is reduced to a minimum.

Tips for cleaning bathtubs

Bathtubs in bathrooms are made from various materials, where porcelain is the most widely used material. Then there are acrylic and fibreglass tubs that are lighter and easier to install than their porcelain counterparts. This is the preferred option when remodelling and in new constructions.
Clean porcelain tubs using some nonabrasive powder or liquid cleanser and a damp sponge. Stubborn soils can be removed using a synthetic scouring pad and then rinsed well.

In case of fibreglass tubs, be careful whilst scrubbing the bathtub to avoid scratches on its surface. Use commercial fibreglass cleaning product or some nonabrasive liquid cleaner with a damp sponge and then rinse with water.

Use rubber gloves for protection

Rust stains in bathtubs are best removed using commercial rust removers. However, make sure you use rubber gloves when you use them for protection from the acid in these cleaning products.

Always remember to remove hair from the drain traps before cleaning bathtubs in bathrooms, to prevent clogging of drains. The rind that forms on the tub can be cleaned using a nylon net ball or pad. If the stain is a stubborn one, let a paste of cream of tartar and hydrogen peroxide dry on it and then wipe it off when it dries.

The discolouration of yellowed bathtubs can be removed using a solution of salt and turpentine and then rinsing well. However, make sure you wear rubber gloves when you do this too.

Care of your shower stall

If you have a shower stall in your bathrooms, you can prevent mildew from forming on it by wiping the shower walls with a towel every time after you shower. Leaving the shower door ajar lets air circulate and discourage mildew growth.

A solution of white vinegar and water is great for removing hard water deposits on shower enclosures. Cleaning glass shower doors with a sponge dipped in white vinegar gives the door a sparkle. The scum in shower doors can be loosened using a solution of a cup of liquid fabric softener and a quart of warm water.

Mineral deposits in shower heads can be cleaned by taking apart the head and soaking it in vinegar. The deposits then have to be loosened using an old toothbrush whilst holes can be cleaned using a toothpick, ice pick or wire.
With all these tips, you find it easy to maintain a sparkling bathtub and shower stall in your bathrooms.
