Wildcats team is a very well known college basketballteam representing the University of Kentucky. They are also called “Big Blue” due to their blue uniform.

Wildcats team is a very well known college basketballteam representing the University of Kentucky. They are also called “Big Blue” due to their blue uniform. This is a well know fact that head coach has a vital role to play for the success of a basketball team. So here is a brief review of coaches and coaching eras of kentucky basketball:
W.W.H. Mustaine era (1903-1918): according to the records, W.W.H. Mustaine was the first head coach of wildcats, although he was not paid. He just gathered the students and asked them to play. As an immature team, wildcats did a fine job and won the season by 29-15.
George Buchheit (1919-1924): Actually he was the first paid head coach for wildcats. He introduced a new system in basket ball. Under his coaching, Kentucky basketball won a number of tournaments. His team was called “The Wonder Team”.
C.O. Applegran (1925-1927): C.O. Applegran was the coach after George Buchheit. In his era, wildcats had a pretty decent win of 15-3.
The Mauermen (1928-1929): John Mauer was the coach of wildcats for this season. He was a brilliant coach and led his team to a record of 40-14. His team was called “The Mauermen”.
Adolph Rupp (1930–1972): He was probably the most wonderful coach wildcats ever had. He got the title of "The Man in the Brown Suit" because he always wore brown suit while in court. His coaching led the team to win 4 NCAA championships and they appeared in 20 NCAA tournaments. They also won 27 SEC (Southeastern Conference). He was compelled to retire at the age of 70.
Joe. B Hall: He was the head coach of wildcats for the era of 1972-1985. In all his season, wildcats set a pretty decent record of 295-102. He is the only man who played and also coached in National tournaments.
Eddie Sutton: He coached Kentucky basketball from 1985 to the year 1989. He made them to get 6th rank in intercollegiate basketball teams. He was not a very successful coach and his era was full of controversies and losses. Therefore he resigned in 1989.
Rick Pitino: He started coaching wildcats in the year 1989 after the resignation of Eddie Sutton. He left in 1997.
Orlando Smith: he was made head coach of wildcats in 1997. He resigned in 2007.
Billy Gillespie: He remained head coach from the year 2007 to 2009.
John Calipari: He is the present coach for Kentucky wildcats basketball.
