The process of printing has entered a new era with the arrival of color printing and the various techniques associated with it. Now having a text or an image just the way it actually is just a matter of seconds.
Color printing is an advanced technology of printing that produces the images and texts in color. Previously printing used to be only in black and white and the process was called monochrome printing. With the advancement of technology, we can now print our documents and images exactly the way they are. There are two types into which color printing can be classified. One is the four-color printing process and the other is the six-color printing process. In case of the former, the color scheme is divided into four colors namely cyan, magenta, yellow and black (CMYK). And the latter includes orange and green colors to it thus making the print-out more lively and realistic.

There are a number of steps that’s followed for developing good quality color printing. The first and foremost step that’s followed is the color separation process. This process involves the digital imaging technology by the help of which the original piece of work is scanned digitally and divided into red, blue and green components. This process is very much in use for color separation of high quality as it does the job very fast. Previously the same job used to be done in a separate manner by means of which the original material had to be photographed three times and then each part had to be filtered separately.

The next step towards good quality color printing is known as the process called black separation. This process develops an image which has a much better quality of contrast. Another approach is the process of Stochastic screening which helps in the elimination of the spots that are left over by the old fashioned half-toned screening processes. In spite of the fact that there are many processes for printing colored images industrial equipments are used to print images on a large scale.

There are various techniques by means of which color printing can be done namely digital printing, flexography, lithography, screen-printing and gravure. Among these methods the most widely used method is the offset lithography and is used almost by all printers. But the screen-printing method is becoming more and more popular day by day and is used in various printing operations. This printing technique is very useful and can print on any flat surface be it a plain piece of paper or a flat sheet of metal. There is another process called the digital printing process that produces seamless colored print outs.
