The story of Chiri, a wild husky bereaved by a wolf attack. Chiricrams to rely on himself while budding up in the snowy wilderness. Things change when he conquersalleyways with Link Stevens, a trapper, and Chiri is convinced he can trust him. The book is all about Chiri’s life with Stevens and the final challenge of coming over his mother’s killer. The sense of adventure and suspense is something that boys will surely love.
Love that Dog, by Sharon Creech
Jack detests poetry in Miss Stretchberry’s class and believes it’s only for girls. He, however, overcomes this struggle of writing poetry with a little help from the teacher and a somewhat special dog. The book is in the form of journal entries and is a quick read. It’s easy for kids to follow and identify with. The end of the book also has the poetic works of several greats whose poems are more suited to younger minds.
