A heat exchanger is a device that is used to transfer heat from one fluid to another fluid and at the same time preventing the two fluids from coming in contact with one another.
Heat exchangers are used by many industries, mainly in oil refineries and chemical plants. Their main purpose is to exchange heat from one place to another, usually from one liquid to another liquid. The continued efficiency of this device demands regular heat exchanger. Heat exchanger of some kind is also used in homes too. The most common household heat exchanger can be found in a refrigerator. In hot countries air conditioners are very common which another kind of heat exchanger is. A same principle applies in large industry where heat needs to be transferred from one place to another. The common type of heat exchanger found in oil refineries and other large plants are the "shell heat exchanger and tube heat exchanger".
A heat exchanger is a device which is used to transfer heat from one fluid to another fluid and at the same time preventing the two fluids from coming in contact with one another. There are three main types of heat exchanger. They are as follows:
• air-cooled
• shell and tube
• plate heat exchangers
A shell and tube heat exchanger is having a complex design. The internal tubes are often of different types and design in order to achieve different results. Some tubes may be plain while others are finned horizontally or longitudinally. The tubes also are composed of different materials and different thermal conductivity like stainless steel, carbon steel, brass, copper and cupronickel. Manufacturers are always looking for ways to prevent this from happening. The manufacturers are using tubing that is resistant to basic corrosion. They have been creating heat exchangers that feature fins to provide better thermal conductivity. They have found that this has been helping prevent some corrosion.
You will find a heat exchanger in many different types of industry. This would include pulp and paper, pharmaceutical, steel industries, marine, automotive and water treatment plants. The heat exchange takes place when one liquid is introduced into the shell and another is introduced into tubes. The two liquids are at different temperatures and heat is exchanged between them, usually for the purpose of cooling of one to the liquids down.
The shell and tube design of heat exchanger is a complex. Cleaning it may seem a daunting task, but it is actually achieved more easily than might be imagined. Heat exchanger tube cleaning is necessary for many reasons. It is required, for prior to an inspection of a heat exchanger tube bundle, especially if the tube bundle is made of metal. An inspection of a tube bundle is carried out by use of an Internal Rotary Inspection System. This involves introducing a probe that has a rotating mirror that can direct an ultrasonic beam onto the wall of the tubes to measure any pitting and corrosion. The mirror is rotated by a small turbine that is driven by the pressure of water that is introduced into the tubes. The probe is drawn along the tube slowly to provide a continuous chart record of the tube's internal condition.
