Los Angeles is home to many sought-after neighborhoods and the one that most people are familiar is Beverly Hills. And while there is no denying the appeal of that neighborhood, many insiders know that the Hollywood Hills is the most exclusive location to own real estate in the city. The Hills offer a variety of benefits that appeal to homeowners – the most impressive views in the city and easy access to Beverly Hills and Hollywood as well as the San Fernando Valley.

Many areas in the Hollywood Hills offer only one way in and out and quite a few homes are in quiet, gated communities, offering the ultimate in privacy and security for selective home buyers. In addition, one reason that this part of town appeals to so many home buyers is that there are very distinctive, separate enclaves within the Hills that appeal to many different people. Here is an overview of the neighborhoods that make up the Hollywood Hills and interesting facts about these areas.

Laurel Canyon
The Laurel Canyon area of the Hollywood Hills is one of the higher traffic sections, as it is a direct route for drivers going traveling between the Studio City section of the San Fernando Valley and the West Hollywood area. The real estate in this area, especially along the main roads, is more concentrated than in other parts of the Hollywood Hills. This area is also recognized as having been home to many famous musicians including Jim Morrison, The Eagles, Crosby, Stills and Nash and Frank Zappa.

Mulholland Drive
This famous drive offers some of the most awe-inspiring views available in Los Angeles. Many natives and visitors stop in designated areas along Mulholland to take in the panoramic view of Los Angeles. It is also an extremely windy road that will take you to the very top of the Hollywood Hills. It should also be noted that a section of Mulholland Drive has been nicknamed “Bad Boy Drive” for the famous “bad boys” who have lived there or continue to live there even now – Marlon Brando, Jack Nicholson and Warren Beatty, among others.

Mt. Olympus
People driving through the area may be familiar with the large sign off of Laurel Canyon that announces the entrance to Mt. Olympus. This section of the Hollywood Hills is 300 acres of a single-family planned development community, so it is run by a Property Owners Association which manages all of the maintenance and operations of the community. Staying true to its roots in Greece’s Mt. Olympus, the streets have names like Hercules and Venus Drive.

Beachwood Canyon
This section of the Hollywood Hills was formerly dubbed “Hollywoodland” and like the other areas in the Hills offers both privacy and access to the city. However, this area would probably be considered a little more low-key and bohemian compared to the other neighborhoods, as it has long been home to many musicians, writers and artists. There are also many areas for outdoor activities including hiking and horseback riding.

It is clear that each neighborhood of the Hollywood Hills has its own distinct personality and benefits unique to it. If you are considering buying real estate, you will undoubtedly find an area in the Hills that will appeal to you.
