The rules for Cornhole vary, depending on the region from which a person originates. The best thing to do is set the ground rules before a game. Different leagues for the sport will set ground rules before signing up the players, and be sure that everyone knows the rules in place before competition.
The term Cornhole is still confusing to some people. Basically, it is a sport involving throwing a small bag of dried corn, weighing one to two pounds, at a hole in a board to score points. At least that is the current meaning of the term. This simple game started as a means of entertainment, throwing different pouches at holes in the ground or in wood or boards to score points. It has since evolved into an actual sport, similar in nature to games like horseshoes, darts, hoops, and others. The premise is the same. The player tosses a pouch toward a target in hopes of getting as close to or hitting the target in order to score points.

The rules for Cornhole vary, depending on the region from which a person originates. The best thing to do is set the ground rules before a game. Different leagues for the sport will set ground rules before signing up the players, and be sure that everyone knows the rules in place before competition. Normally, each game is played with four people, two partners on opposing teams, and the bags of corn used are covered in different colors so there is no problem in seeing where each player tosses their pouches.

In a standard game of Cornhole played just for fun, the pouches weigh one pound. There are eight bags: four of one color, and four of another color. Two to four people play the game. There are two boards, measuring two feet wide by four feet long and ramped at a 45-degree angle off the ground on one end. This is set 27 feet apart from the highest end. The hole in it measures six inches in diameter a maximum of nine inches from the highest end. The players cannot move their feet past the lowest end of the board they stand next to in order to toss toward the other board. If their pouch goes through the hole, they score three points. If the pouch misses the hole, but remains lying on the board, one point is earned. If the pouch is touching the ground in any way, no point is scored.

Cornhole is a game of skill, and it is fun and entertaining to play. The simplicity of scoring in most instances allows all players to have some fun while showing their skill at the game. The scoring in this article is what most use just for fun. The rules, scoring, and other regulations get more in depth for competition play.
