It is hot and humid in summer and pathogen activity is frequent. So, people are likely to suffer from gastrointestinal disease, diarrhea, food poisoning, air conditioning disease, colds and dermatitis. People often prepare some medicines at home just in case. How to store these medicines and ensure the medicine quality?

The storage requirements of different types of drugs are not the same. There are four general requirements for drug storage temperature: room temperature refers to 10 to 30 ℃; cold place refers to 2 to 10 ℃; cool and dark place refers to avoiding light with temperature below 20 ℃; shade place refers to no more than 20 ℃. Therefore, some medicines have to be stored in refrigerator.

The preservation of troche and capsule: After opening the package, the attached desiccant should be placed in the original packaging to prevent moisture absorption of drug. It is better to store in dark brown glass bottle and different drugs must be separated. Pulvis and granules are subpackage. As the contained additives which improve the taste of drugs can promote medicine deterioration, it cannot be kept for long time after opening. For liquid preparations such as cough syrup, anti-allergy syrups or paracetamol solution, they do not need to be placed in the refrigerator after opening and you just need to store at room temperature. Under the low temperature, the solubility of most liquid formulations may decrease, and the sugar in syrup is possible to separate out crystals.

The following drugs should be refrigerated: biological products such as injectable insulin, albumin, and vaccines; oral administration medicine microecologics; liniment for external use should be tightened to prevent volatilization; eye drops, nasal drops, ear drops, lotions and mouthwash.

Chemical reaction of drugs could accelerate with the increasing temperature. As the temperature rises 10 degrees, the chemical reaction rate increases two to four times. Therefore, drugs should be stored in the dry cool place to avoid heat or sunshine. Medicine is not suitable for freezing. Before treatment, you should carefully read the package insert to control usage, dosage and storage method.

You need to check if the medicine is useful within effective period every three to six months. If you find that it exceeds the expiration date or the drugs go bad, you need to change drugs immediately.
