Going natural is something that has only been around recently as a “trend”, but it’s actually been around a lot longer than we have. Using natural ingredients and methods to create natural foods we eat should be the norm not an exception.
Going natural is something that has only been around recently as a “trend”, but it’s actually been around a lot longer than we have. Using natural ingredients and methods to create natural foods we eat should be the norm not an exception. Non-natural foods can actually be easy to avoid. Make sure to look at the labeling on all packaged foods you eat to make sure you recognize everything that you are eating. If you are not sure what a certain chemical or ingredient is, look it up to ensure that what you're putting in your body is healthy.

With all the introduction of “natural” and “organic” foods, it can be overwhelming and may even diminish the meaning of natural. Another thing is that these foods tend to be more expensive than the processed junk we are used to eating, and a lot of times this can turn people away. Before you turn away from the higher price, read this information so you can understand the health benefits of eating natural foods.

What defines natural foods?

Natural foods are defined as products that do not endure any chemical processing, either in the growing process or in the harvesting procedure. These are products that should not contain pesticides or insecticides, fertilizers as well as other toxins. The problem with this, however, is that the term is not regulated in many places. In the United States the word natural is not regulated in anyway, and food companies can place this word all over their food without any type of restrictions. There are laws against false advertising in food products, but since the word natural is unregulated by the FDA, many food manufacturers try to trick consumers into purchasing foods that are anything but natural.

When you see organic foods that are pre-packaged, this means that each of the ingredients is also processed using organic techniques. Unlike natural, the word organic is regulated. However, you should to look for packages that include the term ‘100%’ or ‘certified’ organic in order to know that all of the ingredients are organic and natural. When a package just includes the now generic phrase of organic, it might mean that only a portion of the ingredients are processed in this method. In fact, products with “organic” labels only need to use a reduced percentage of chemicals rather than eliminate them altogether. This is why it is so important to research the food you eat: where it comes from and how it's grown.
