Laser technology is a definite technology by which materials can be cut by laser rays in case of manufacturing units. Presently it is also used in the school workshops and also by the persons to pursue particular hobbies. This cutting operation is carried out by a high powered laser which is monitored by a computer. The materials either melt or vaporize leaving a very high quality of exterior finish. In case of Laser cut aluminum carbondyoxide laser is usually pumped by passing a gas mix or using radio frequency force. The mixture of carbondyoxide, helium and nitrogen is circulated in a very high speed by a blower. The generation of the laser beam stimulates the lasing material and the beam is reflected by a particular mirror. There are actually three types of configurations in case of laser cutting or processing in the manufacturing units. Advantage of this type of cutting over its mechanical counterpart is that it is much more precise.
In case of Laser cut metal less energy is used compared to the traditional techniques but however this type of cutting is not that effective in case of metal with great thickness, then plasma cutting is useful. Presently the laser machines are operated at a much higher power than earlier, for example earlier the power range was 1500 watts and today its 6000 watts! But one should remember that the capital costs of Plasma cutters are quite higher than laser cutting machines. So the manufacturers should focus on producing goods from less thick metals because a huge amount of investment is involved in case of plasma cutting. The laser cutting machines consume power on the higher side but one should focus on the other significant benefits like it has less thermal effect and no mechanical deformation takes place, the hardest steel can be cut with minimum effects, the laser cutting can make possible elaborate shape which is not at all possible by conventional methods, high degree of control is possible. Another great advantage of laser cutting is fragile materials can be cut without any damage. Laser cutting is effective with regard to a variety of metals from stainless steel, mild and high tensile steels including various alloys.
The most interesting and significant aspect of Laser cutting machinery is its ability able to make the right choice with respect to each production step. The built in devices do not need additional direction or operation to carry out the next step. But generally the skillful operators do check the various parameters for quality and safety aspect.
