There are many types of natural foods that lower body cholesterol. This article groups these types of foods into three and discusses what part they play in lowering body cholesterol. To lower LDL, you need to increase your intake of HDL.
Cholesterol builds up in the body over a long period of time. However, factors such as gender, underlying medical conditions and genetics affect the speed of buildup. It is advisable for every person above the age of 18 to take regular blood tests to determine cholesterol body level.
Cholesterol contributes to many heart related conditions. In fact, it has been rated as the leading cause of diseases such as coronary thrombosis, angina and atherosclerosis. High cholesterol comes as an effect of poor eating habits and sedentary lifestyles.
Genetics is not a choice and so if one has high cholesterol genetically, it is recommended that they should exercise regularly and eat healthy meals.
Lowering body cholesterol involves lifestyle changes. You should start with your eating habits. If you love eating delicacies that contain high quantities of saturated fats such as icecreams, cream cakes and cookies, then you should stop.
Smoking lowers HDL which is the good cholesterol and increases LDL, the bad cholesterol. Recent studies have established that there is a relationship between smoking and body cholesterol. Experts warn that aside from destroying lungs, smoking kills the heart slowly.
So what are the foods best eaten to lower cholesterol? Natural foods are highly recommended to lower body cholesterol. The natural foods we know include vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, legumes, grains and fish.
All these are divided into three groups depending on how they assist our bodies in lowering body cholesterol. These include the inhibitors, the binders and the regulators.
The binders are any food items that stop the absorption of cholesterol in the body. They contain a lot of soluble fiber. These foods bind cholesterol along with other unwanted wastes and are passed out of the body system.
Good examples of binders include whole cereals such as oats and barley. Other examples include apples, nuts, cabbage, and kales.
The inhibitors stop the liver from manufacturing cholesterol. These food groups contain elements that affect cholesterol manufacture in the body. Foods high in flavonoids such as tangerines, pomegranates and grapes are the best known inhibitors.
The last group which is the regulators help in stopping cholesterol build up within the vascular walls. They control the amount of cholesterol in the body by ensuring that cholesterol is deposited in the liver instead of the blood vessels.
Good examples of inhibitors include oranges, broccoli, whole grains and oysters. Fish contains a lot of omega 3 which is essential in regulating body cholesterol. Eating fatty fish will heighten HDL and lower LDL in the body
