Drugs do not come to a person and asks him or her to take it and get addicted. It is solely the fault of that person who gets addicted to drugs. It is us who have transformed the medicine into this deadly poison. Drugs like heroin, cocaine are all opiates which were mainly used as medicine. But, people have misused its effect and changed the opiates into lethal drugs of addiction. Even the painkillers which have very little amount of opiate in them are used as addiction drugs. There are lots of addiction drugs present like LSD, Marijuana and Hashish etc. But the medicinal drugs are the deadliest. Painkillers are easily available and cheap; as a result addicts do not find it difficult getting them.
Painkiller addiction has reached a critical level in the recent few years. It has even outraced the other deadly drugs. People addicted to drugs like heroin or cocaine can easily be identified by their behavior or looks. But a painkiller kills them from inside. The side effects of painkillers cannot be seen until carefully observed. One symptom of painkiller is sleeping for long periods of time; any person can sleep for long time. So you can never accuse a person sleeping for long time as a painkiller addict. Another symptom is that the addicts yawn excessively. This also goes with the previous case. But, there are few features by which a painkiller addict can be identified. First is his behavior; the mood of the painkiller addicts fluctuates very rapidly; the addict will always try to stay away from others. He will always try to isolate himself from the outer world.
One question that comes to people’s mind often is why do people use drugs? The answer is quiet simple. People get addicted to drugs mainly because of low self esteem. So, they are incapable to express their views and feelings in a normal way. When they are high enough, they do not care about their inability or fear. People do not feel anything like sadness, happiness or depression when they are high. So, they feel it the more comfortable way to live and interact with others.
Although these are helpful for the addict in a certain way, but the addiction destroys the person from inside and very slowly. Our duty is to kill the opiate addiction present inside the addict and help them get back their self esteem. Destroying the cause of addiction will kill the addiction itself. This step cannot be taken by delivering some speeches to the addicts; they should be given all the treatment they need, in a well reputed drug rehabilitation center.
