Monkey Jungle & Zip Line Adventures tourist attraction: fun with the monkeys, great views on the 7 zip lines, gives all profits to on-site, free dental/medical clinics for the poor.
Monkey Jungle and Zip Line Adventures is an eco-adventure attraction in Sosua, not far from Cabarete Beach. It is on an old road 5 1/2 miles (9 kilometers) into jungles, forests, fields, mountains and the 250-acre Monkey Jungle Ranch and organic farm.

The main attraction is playing with the 13 squirrel monkeys—plus seven just-born babies— in their two-acre jungle. They come down from tall ficus trees to cavort with the guests that feed them organic fruit raised on the ranch.

The monkeys have companions that include two endangered iguanas, that also come up to the guests to feed, a lone mongoose, guinea fowl, peacocks and turkeys. The turkeys are there as security guards. They instinctively peck and kill any snake that should make the mistake of wandering in. Occasionally, the monkeys chase the birds, but not the iguanas.

Great Adventure

Seven zip lines, each with its own dramatic view, crisscross the ranch’s hills and valleys. The course is certified by the Association for Challenge Course Technology (ACCT) in the United States and are the only ones in the Dominican Republic with double cables for extra safety.

Guests can also dine on a lunch of hamburgers made with grass-fed, organic beef from the ranch. Back home you get either organic or grass-fed, you never get both in the same burger. Here you do.

Monkey Jungle also has a monthly pig roast during the tourist season. On the menu is slow-cooked, bar-b-qued, Tennessee-style, pulled pork; corn-on-the-cob; Corky’s cream-style coleslaw and Tennessee baked beans.

This event includes gathering at the entrance to the ranch’s bat cave at dusk to watch 1 million bats fly into the advancing night. Very exciting—a sight very few people see. US$40.00 (1500 Pesos). Private parties can also be arranged.

Have Fun, Do Good

Monkey Jungle and Zip Line Adventures is more than a tourist attraction. Its reason for existing is to finance an on-premise, free medical, dental and eye clinic for the poor. All its profits go to finance the clinics, which include an extensive pharmacy. Every Saturday a staff of eleven volunteers and five paid staff members take care of about 150 patients.

The founders and corporate officers of this new form of business and philanthropic enterprise take no salary or money from the business or clinics for personal needs. None.

Prices

If you arrive by your own transportation, the attraction costs US$53.00 (2000 Pesos) for the zip lines and US$18.50 (700 Pesos) for feeding and playing with the monkeys. The combined ticket is US$66.00 (2500 Pesos).

Luna Tours' price of US$86.00 (3300Pesos) includes transportation that meets you and returns you to your resort—809 320 106.
