Coming back to Phulkari stole, it is essential here for us to have some basic grasp of what Phulkari implies. Phulkari is a traditional embroidery technique employed by the artisans in Punjab and neighbouring Pakistan that involves floral designs. Phul in Hindi means flower. And Phulkari denotes an intricate and at the same time simple and straight flower working. Basically the women in these regions used to do this to create stoles, dupattas or odhnis for themselves and other lady members only. Such Phulkari stoles and other accessories were then used by these women on marriages and other joyour occasions.

This floral embroidery technique is used to produce bigger garments as well. Though then they are uniquely called Baghs ( garden in Hindi) and not Phulkaris.

Today, Phulkari stoles have crossed the distance from Punjabi households to the market place and is an established and globally recognized cottage industry. The soft and serene looking stoles indeed have stolen the hearts of one and all and customers simply seems to be in a state where they cannot have enough of this handmade proudct.
