Planning a holiday is always a daunting proposition, more so if it's India. This country of diverse culture and extremes of climate can leave the tourist frustrated and with excess baggage, if the holiday to India is not planned carefully.

The first thing would be to take a look at the budget and then look at all the aspects of the holiday  accommodation, the climate and appropriate clothes, the tickets and visa  but first the budget. Many hotels offer pick up and drop facility but for the tourist on a tight budget, don't be surprised if the taxi, rickshaw or the bus is a little rough. Like any other country, this beautiful country has two faces  one for the tourists and one for the locals.

Many good tourist companies offer holiday package India. These packages are pre-planned, so it would be a good idea to trust the tourist agent and ask for the best package at that time of the year. For example, the package to North India is not a good option in summers. Indian summers are literally killing and for one not used to the sweltering heat, it can create medical challenges.

If the tourist plans an India holiday tour alone, it is best to be armed with a detailed map of the country and the places to be visited. All good bookshops have good maps along with a good selection of books on the country. Then come the clothes. It largely depends on the time of the year, the tourist plans to visit. North India from October to February is very cold, so woolens are recommended; the coastal areas have rains from June to September and so on. It is also advisable to be familiar with the culture of the place intended for the visit as each zone has multiple religions and the one thing that a tourist would not want to do in a country like India would be to hurt the religious sentiments, even though it may be unintentional.

There are a lot of India holiday packages to choose from. Each tourist company has something different to offer. Take a look at the company's website, talk to their tourist representatives and decide. Finally, don't forget to pack those walking shoes  they may just be needed.
