Do not increase only the numbers of back links but evaluate their relevancy which is more important than number.

Back links are the links which are called the inbound links (IBL’s) or the inward links. The greater the number of back links is the greater the popularity of your website. It simply indicates the popularity and importance of your website. Back links are important for SEO because some search engines, especially Google, will give more credit to websites that have a good number of quality back links, and consider those websites more relevant than others in their results pages for a search query. When the search engines are calculating the importance and popularity of a specific website to a keyword then they consider the number of quality inbound links to that site. So you should not be happy that you have got some inbound links but you have to judge the quality of the links that you have got. So when it comes to exchange of links then always remember that exchange your link with some other quality links not with mass quantity of links and that can harm your purpose instead of do good for your website’s high ranking. Now quality of inbound links is determined by the fact that how much they are relevant for your site considering their content. The more relevant the site is that is linking back to your website, the better the quality of the back link.
