In the United States, skin cancer is diagnosed in more than 3.5 million people every year. Among these 3.5 million, 90% of people get cancer as a result of exposure to the ultraviolet radiation emitted from the sun. It is quite a fact that everybody would love the sheet of warmth and relaxation from the sun rays but it is important to make sure that skin is not exposed to harmful ultraviolet radiation which could lead to skin cancer.

Skin cancer may be very dangerous, but today with the advancement of science and technology, there is solutions for all. Yes, if you’re having skin cancer whether melanoma or non-melanoma, you can find the right skin cancer treatment in New Jersey.

As the saying goes, “Prevention is better than cure”, it is better to prevent yourself from being a victim of skin cancer. To eliminate the risk of getting skin burn and skin cancer it is important to take a few measures to restrain the penetration of UV rays into the skin.

Never spend long periods in the sun:

Even slight sunburn could impact Melanoma skin cancer. Melanoma is the deadliest of all types of skin cancer. If it is unavoidable to stay outdoors in the hot sun for long time, make sure that you take a cover once you feel that your skin is getting reddish.

Take necessary clothing before going into sun:

If you have to work outdoors or you are involved in sports practice make sure that you wear sufficient clothing to protect your skin. It is not a bad idea to wear sun glasses and a long brim hat. Ensure that these protections have the right materials capable of resisting UV rays.

Reflected Sun rays are more dangerous:

It is a fact that the intensity of UV-rays increases when sun rays are reflected through water, ice or even mirrors. Try to maintain good defense (wearing good clothing or sunscreen) when you happen to move through spots where you suspect the presence of reflected sunlight.

Apply Sunscreen:

If you are involved in swimming or sports you don’t get the opportunity to clothe the body completely. In this case, it is recommended to wear sunscreen lotion with the required SPF (sun protection factor). A sunscreen lotion with SPF 15 provides 95% protection and SPF of 30 provides 97% protection to UV-B rays which cause redness to skin. Apply at least 30 minutes before you go out. As sunscreens are not completely water proof it is better to reapply several times.

Skin burn is the major cause for people getting skin cancer. It is inevitable to stay away from sun. So let us take the armor of protection and resist the sun’s UV thereby lead a healthy life free from skin cancer.
