The first rule of thumb for buying winter coats is to remember that just like every piece of clothing, one size doesn’t fit all. It can make just as much of a difference to think about your body shape when it comes to your coats as it does to an evening dress or a suit. It’s always tempting to wrap up in the thickest woollen coat you can find when it starts to get really bitter out, but a well-made ladies jacket can often provide just as much insulation without weighing you down, provided you perfect the art of layering. This involves wearing several thin layers as opposed to one heavy piece. So instead of a bulky coat, try wearing a top or blouse under a lightweight cardigan, with a jacket on top. As well as not weighing you down, layering allows you to display your whole outfit rather than burying it – perfect for a night out.
Many high street retailers leave a lot to be desired when it comes to providing attractive plus-sized clothing, but there’s no need to settle for cheap, shapeless alternatives. Instead, extend your search to online shopping catalogues. Many online retailers offer a much wider range, with some stores specifically catering to plus sized women’s clothing. You’ll probably end up paying less too.
