Think of Sports Utility Vehicles (SUV) and comes to mind. The cars built and off-roading capabilities have wooed many despite there being several worthy competitors. This brawny car from the Tata stable is soon going to get a sibling in Tata Aria, which is a crossover between a SUV and Multi Utility Vehicle (MUV) due to be launched in the near future. Coming from the same stable and falling almost in the same segment the two cars have a few things in common but the Tata Aria is a step ahead. Let’s figure out how.

The Tata Safari comes with a 2.2L, 16 valve and a VTT DICOR engine capable of producing 140hp at the rate of 4000rpm and a torque of 320Nm at the rate of 1700-2700 rpm. The car comes in both two wheel drive (2WD) and four wheel drive (4WD) options. It is interesting to note that the Tata Aria too would come with the same engine and would have both 2WD and 4WD options.

However, it is the design, interiors and features of Tata Aria that set it apart in its class. The all new Aria is being hailed as the most sophisticated Tata till dated. The Tata Aria would have three rows of seating arrangements to accommodate 7 passengers. The second and third row seats can be folded fully flat to create more luggage space and there is good air conditioning for all three rows. The car has leather covered steering wheel, gear shift knob and leather seats, headrest mounted LCD screen, power and tilt steering, power windows at all four doors, automatic climate control AC, keyless entry, advanced CD/MP3 audio system, cup holders on floor console, cigarette lighter and ash-tray in front console, rear wash and wiper, electrical glass demister, digital outside temperature indicator, etc. These are some of the high end features found only in very expensive and top end SUVs. The Tata Aria would also have high-tech multimedia features like the advanced CD player, USB/Bluetooth connectivity, 3D sound etc.

On the other hand the Tata Safari has features like tubeless tyres, day-night instrumental panel, wood finish centre console, leather seats, power windows and leather wrapped steering and gear knob. Tata Safari dicor has a remote unlocking system that lights up the roof of the car for five seconds thus helping to trace the car.

Tata Safari also has some good safety features such as ABS, dual Airbags and reverse guide system. And for entertainment the car has a DVD/MP3 system with dual LCD screens as standard. The Tata Aria has disc brakes coupled with ABS and Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) system. The ESP is the first in any Tata car. Aria’s power steering, efficient braking system with ESP and standard ground clearance ensure hassle free driving.

Lastly, the Tata Aria is designed as per global standards and would be available in the domestic market by the second quarter of this calendar year with a piece tag of Rs. 12.5- 14.5 lakh while Tata Safari comes for Rs 7,91,353 – 12,23,969 (ex-showroom).
