Tata Safari is an SUV that has been given the shaped by Tata Motors of India. It is the earliest SUV designed, manufactured and developed completely in India. Initially it was released in the year1998 with the Turbo Diesel engine of about 2.0 litre. Then, in 2005 it was modified extensively with the addition of new 3-litre DiCOR engine in addition to the modified exteriors and interiors. This 3-litre engine is the earliest diesel engine by Tata Motors with the ordinary rail technology. 2-litre petrol engine was also added to the series in the same year. And very surprisingly, it is this modified version that let the Motor Forum's won Car of the Year award in the SUV category. Selected by the customer, it hammers rivals for instance Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V and Land Rover Freelander.

In October again, Tata unveiled 2.2-litre Safari DiCOR with an increased power output of 143 PS (105 KW). But it was abruptly put back by the much sophisticated DiCOR 2.2 VTT engine with the power output of 140 PS at 4000 rpm and a torque output of 320 N•m at 1700 rpm. It is extensively observed as the finest engine used by the Tata Motors. Recently, Tata has launched a latest variation of safari with the name Safari GX. The innovative Safari GX sits beneath existing top end alternative Safari VX. Safari Gx has got dual tone exteriors, exclusive leather cum fabric upholstery, Reverse Guide System. Another added feature is indicators over the Outer Rear View Mirrors.

Even with this the Tata has continued the tradition of providing car sincere handling accuracy at elevated speeds.
