Tips for better e-mail marketing

Poor e-mail marketing can have little effect on bringing up sales or, worse, backfire by lowering customer goodwill. Here are a few simple tips for how you can make your e-mail marketing a success.
One of the ways e-commerce businesses have started roping in more attention from their curious visitors and customers is by providing the option to subscribe to e-mails and newsletters. E-mail marketing is a great way to keep your e-commerce business in the forefront of your customers' minds. It is a more active approach since you send the new information to them instead of waiting for them to come to you. Often times, if you make sure the content of your e-mails is substantial and relevant to your customers' interests, then you will garner more sales and attention from it. However, poor e-mail marketing can have little effect or, worse, backfire by lowering customer goodwill. Here are a few simple tips for how you can make your e-mail marketing a success.

Provide a meaningful subject line and sender name. With so many spam e-mails out there, it's important that you catch your customer's attention upon first glance. First impressions are everything, especially on the Internet where users are less willing to wait or read every word. Make sure your sender name is the name of your company so your subscribers will know who the e-mail is from. You should also provide a meaningful subject line that makes it clear what the e-mail is about; a good example would be to provide your company name again, plus something like "Act now for free shipping!"

Provide a teaser for the first few lines. You want to entice your customer and make them curious enough to open the e-mail. Some e-mail clients allow users to see the first line of a message, so you should take advantage of this by getting right to the point of the e-mail within the first line. A good example would be "20% off on your next online purchase!" This will pique interest, and your customer will want to open the e-mail to find out how to receive the discount. Depending on the instructions you provide, you'll also entice the customer to take action and take advantage of the offer - perhaps even visit your website.

Send e-mails quickly and frequently. As soon as the user subscribes to e-mails, then you should have an automated system set up to send them a welcome e-mail. The welcome e-mail should have more than just your company name and a welcome message; you should also provide some useful information or a special just for signing up. You want to make it worthwhile to sign up for e-mails and also catch customers' attention and keep your business in their minds. If you provide user specific benefits and quality products and service, then your customers will spread the word. You don't have to offer a special in every e-mail you send, but you should update customers with offers, new products, and general company news frequently so you don't fall out of touch with them. Just make sure not to send one out every day because customers can get annoyed and unsubscribe if you send too many in a short period of time.

Often, creating the content is the most challenging part of starting any e-business. However, once you get used to writing for e-mail marketing and have done it for a while, it will become easier and the benefits will outweigh the challenges. You can contact an e-commerce provider to help you set up your online business and give you advice on your content and marketing techniques.
