Behind every successful horse is a competent and a hard working trainer. Soon racehorses like Thunder Gulch, Serena’s Song and Majestic Number started getting plated up for the tournaments starting 1995. And the opening was magnificent for Todd. His 2004 season incredibility start with Ashado winning the Kentucky Oaks and moving on to conquer Breeder’s Cup Distaff made him an instant star. Pletcher produced another scintillating star from his stable, Speightstown who captured the award for Outstanding Sprint runner for the year, 2004 again, adding another feather to Todd’s amazing work as a trainer.
What followed was a rage of victories and record setting performances, now that Todd had found his firm spot in the horse racing arena. While in 2005 Pletcher created history by setting up a single season’s racing earnings at approximately $21million which he obliterated himself and set another, this time it was a season’s earnings at approximately $27million. The year 2006 also surpassed another legendary record set by Todd’s mentor Wayne Lukas, 92 stakes win. Todd had won more than 100 stakes and was the new owner of this record as well.
While a Triple Crown is has still eluded this superb trainer’s wishlist, Todd made his first Kentucky Derby win eventually with Super Saver last year and made a Belmont Stakes debut in 2007 with rags to Riches. This year, its Todd’s horse Uncle Mo who as a three year old making the news and is being counted as one of the most coveted contenders for the Breeder’s Cup Classic.
