When trying to achieve your look, think about your definition of glamour. Is it a long, flowy gown, an exotic animal print, shimmering fabrics, a dress in a cut-out design, bows or ruffles? What’s on your feet? Is it a strappy sandal, a stiletto heel or a platform shoe.
For high school girls, prom is a night when fantasy turns into reality. Prom gowns, with the right accessories, can let you be whatever you want to be.

When trying to achieve your look, think about your definition of glamour. Is it a long, flowy gown, an exotic animal print, shimmering fabrics, a dress in a cut-out design, bows or ruffles? What’s on your feet? Is it a strappy sandal, a stiletto heel or a platform shoe? What else makes your outfit? Jewelry, hair accessories and even the right lingerie can help you get the look you want.

Start at the bottom with the right shoes. First – how tall is your date? If he’s just about your height, you may want to consider a short sandal or ballet shoe. Your shoes don’t need a heel to be glamorous. Next consider the color of your dress. If you want an eye-catching look, consider a gold, silver or bronze metallic.

They make almost any color dress pop. And if your dress is a metallic shade, you really don’t want to introduce another color. But if you just can’t decide what color is best, then maybe buy your shoes from a bridal salon where they can be dyed to match your gown. Dyes come in up to 90 shades, so you’re bound to find one that matches perfectly.

Jewelry can also help you achieve your look. Pick up bracelets, necklaces or earrings to add some sparkle and shine. They don’t have to be something expensive from your mother’s jewelry box. Instead, look at the costume jewelry in the stores or online. You’re bound to find something for under $20 in a style that helps you achieve your look. Pick a necklace that enhances the neckline of your gown.

If your dress is already busy at the neckline – maybe with ruffles or a bow – then go for a simple, drop necklace. But if your neckline is pretty bare and you could use a necklace to fill in the space, then go for a busy, beaded piece set on a shimmery silver chain. As for earrings, consider first how you want to wear your hair. If you’re wearing it up, then consider big, jeweled drop earrings. If you know you’ll be wearing your hair down, then consider a pair of shimmering hoops.

And speaking of hair, there are accessories for your locks that can also enhance your look.
Consider a simple sparkling headband made of rhinestones. There are also hair combs enhanced with flowers or crystals that can be used in your up-do.

To complete the look, consider a pair of long, above-the-elbow satin gloves. Nothing ever looks as elegant as long, black gloves. And don’t forget about a purse. You’ll need something at least as big as a clutch to hold your beauty essentials and identification. A simple clutch with a kisslock closure is available in an array of colors, as well as metallic shades. Match your clutch with your shoes or dress. Again, you can buy purses at bridal salons that can be dyed to match your shoes or dress.

And finally, don’t forget about the right lingerie to serve as the foundation of your look. This is a night to look glamorous and sophisticated, so don’t skimp on the right bra or bosom solution. You want everyone focusing on your look, so pay attention to this area. Stick-on bras are invaluable for dresses and figures that need some uplift, but the dress lacks the material to cover a conventional bra. These bras are perfect for backless dresses and strapless dresses. They can give you the confidence that everything is quite covered just in case you experience some sort of wardrobe malfunction.

Wear the stick-on bra once, and throw it away. For another “minimalist” look, consider a strapless minimizer bra for the full-figured young ladies. They make molded, seamless underwire bras that hold everything firmly in place. The bra will give you support and a flattering shape.

If you are wearing a conventional bra, make sure your straps stay in place with a Magic Clip. Not only will it keep your straps from slipping, but it also offers your bosom a nice lift and takes the pressure off your back. For a cinched look, consider a Push-Up Brasselette. It’s a strapless, corset-type garment with a low front and back that goes down to just below your waist. Built-in light boning helps you keep the shape that adds to your look.

And finally, if your shape is just a little too slim to fill out your dress perfectly, consider silicone Reveal cups. Available in A, B and C cup sizes, they add up to one cup size and can be reused up to 100 times.

When it’s time for your prom, have fun experimenting with accessories. Look for pieces that express your personality, make your dress pop, and make you feel confident.
