Victoria Falls is known as the curtain of falling water, or “Mosi-Oa-Tunya”, the smoke that thunders. The roaring waters create a column of spray that rises hundreds of metres into the air, sometimes visible from more than 30 kilometres away. Impressive, but there’s more…

A visit to the Falls promises a spectacular setting for an adventure experience of a life-time. Victoria Falls is labelled by the Bradt Travel Guide as ‘THE adventure capital of Southern Africa’, and rightly so as here you will find an extreme variety in adrenaline releasing activities.

To start off there is the all-time favourite thrill – Bungee Jumping. Enjoy one of the most spectacular views from the middle of the main bridge, 111 metres above the Zambezi River. Then count three…two…one….juuuuump! This is one of the highest commercial bungee-jumps in the world, not for the feint-hearted. You can book in advance or just walk onto the bridge (past the border) and go for it!

Moving on to even greater heights, the Flight of Angels is a must! This David Livingstone coined phrase refers to any trip over the Falls in a light aircraft. A helicopter flight is a fun way to enjoy spectacular views of the gorges and upstream of the Zambezi River. Choose from diverse operators for different tours. Flights are available 365 days a year and are definitely worth the extra expense!

For a more down to earth experience, enjoy the view of the landscape through the eyes of an elephant. SafPar’s Zambezi Elephant Trails offer elephant-back safaris and are based at Thorntree River Lodge on the Zambezi river. Your ‘Nduna’ joins you as you ride along the river through the bush, on an elephant’s back, ending at the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park. This is the only trail safari on an elephant’s back.

SO, at Vic Falls there is enough to keep your adrenaline pumping, whilst taking in some of the most breathtaking sights…this is Africa at its best!

As the ‘capital of adventure’, Victoria Falls is filled with heights and adrenaline-filled Victoria Falls activities. The waterfall is a sight that you have to see at least once in your life-time – described by the early explorer David Livingstone as “the most wonderful sight [he] had witnessed in Africa.”
