When you talk about digital media, you are talking just about any kind of electronic gadget that can be opened, read and edited by other electronic piece of equipment like a cell phone, a laptop, a desktop as long as it is part of a network. Digital media is a language format as in those used in computer language and also uses the binary system represented by zeroes and ones.
There are lots of blank media available for storage. A compact disc or CD is an example of storage for digital data. Here comes another innovation, the Blu-Ray disc, so called because of the laser that it uses for reading and writing has a blue-violet color. The blu-ray also has more storage capacity than both the cd and dvd and gives more clarity in sound and picture for video.
The Universal Serial Bus is another type of blank media. It is still a popular choice for storage because aside from the fact that it has flash memory, it is small and very easy to carry around, very useful especially if your storage mainly comprises documents.
Let’s take a look at the storage capacity of these different types of blank media.
1. The usual blank CD can store up to 700MB size of data.
2. A standard DVD, single-sided; single-layered, can hold 4.7GB of documents, video and sound.
3. Blu-ray discs mostly have a capacity of 50GB maximum, however, consumer blu-ray discs can hold only up to 25GB.
4. USB flash drives have different storage capacity available in the market. You can get USB flash drives that can store even up to 256GB. That’s a lot of storage capacity compared to CD, DVD and Blu-ray.
Looking at all the storage devices we have discussed and if you have the need to use spy cameras, well, I would still commend the use of DVD or blu-ray over the USB.
