One of the most well-known vacation destinations on the North East Coast, is the delightful town of Whitby. Over the previous 20 years or so, Whitby has increased its tourism industry so considerably so that it is now a key source of income for the town and a large element of the population are involved in one way or another. There has been a particular growth in the number and range of restaurants launched in the latter decade. Formerly there were regular restaurants offering a largely comprehensive menu choice but of traditional English meals. This has now transformed largely by the introduction of differing international types of eating establishments.
Many new restaurants have become established, which offer Eastern cuisine, such as Chinese, Indian and Thai. These restaurants offer exciting menus with exotic ingredients and decor. Perhaps more of a Mediterranean flavour has been introduced by the Italian restaurants and bistros offering their pastas, pizzas and flavoursome chicken, fish and steak dishes. The ever popular fish and chip restaurants are now including a medley of different choices in addition to the standard fayre. No trip to Whitby would be complete without a meal of local fish and chips either from a restaurant or take-away. There are now more upmarket restaurants in the town, many offering contemporary surroundings, and even musical entertainment.
Pubs in addition to the restaurants have been increasingly changing their own food selection from the traditional 'pub meals'. The rise in the number of kid friendly establishments have increased the range of customer ages allowing families to dine together, not to mention the ban on cigarette smoking has made them even more appropriate for family dining.
The perception of pubs has also changed, with the lifting of rigid licensing hours. More and more pubs are offering 'morning coffee' or even 'all day coffee', in addition to numerous soft drinks, to go with their table menus. A significant number of Whitby pubs have a separate dining room, as well as the bar area.
There are a large selection of cafes available to visitors to the town. There is something to suit every taste, whatever your choice of food . From a delicious Whitby Crab sandwich, to traditional fish and chips, to a hot panini, the choice is yours.
There are a good number cafes around the streets of Whitby, providing a variety of dishes for local people and visitors to the town. Over the last few years there has been a huge amount of varied types of eating establishments to suit every palate and occasion. If you are just walking around the town and are looking of a refreshing beverage then there are numerous cafes serving delicious coffees and snacks. If perhaps you would like lunch then the available options are tremendous, from a simple snack to a full three course meal.
Increased choice availability in Whitby has provided a more cosmopolitan feel to the entire dining experience. Of course, the kind of food and style of restaurant is entirely a personal choice but Whitby is fully equipped to offer the most discerning diner a meal to tempt their taste buds.
