I never quite made it to the dizzy heights of head prefect when I was at school. I was never destined to wear School Badges that held such highly acclaimed titles, although I do recall owning a milk monitor badge at some time at junior school.

I never quite made it to the dizzy heights of head prefect when I was at school. I was never destined to wear School Badges that held such highly acclaimed titles, although I do recall owning a milk monitor badge at some time at junior school. It makes me all nostalgic when I think back at the School Badges that were worn when I was a little nipper. My primary school handed out a number of Name Badges to pupils and School Badges were given to kids for a variety of reasons.
Times haven’t changed much, School Badges are just as popular today and if anything, the numbers have grown somewhat. It’s important to give children School Badges whilst they are learning, it teaches good values and lets them assume positions of responsibility.
Popular types of School Badges
Can you think of the different types of School Badges and Name Badges that were handed out in your learning establishment? Bet there were plenty of ‘Prefect’ School Badges given out weren’t they? ‘House Captain’ School Badges are another familiar sight in primary and secondary schools, plus ‘Monitor’ badges have been around for ages.
Sporting versions of School Badges were popular in my day, whether they were ‘Team Captain’ badges or little shields that had ‘Team Player’ printed onto them. School Badges show you belong to a team, they can show others that you have been entrusted with an important position at school and they can be used for recognition or reward purposes.
School Badges in modern times
New ranges of Name Badges and title badges have emerged over the years. Playgrounds are filled with children that wear ‘Buddy’ School Badges and ‘Peer Mentor’ badges are also popular. You’re just as likely to find ‘Anti Bullying’ School Badges in learning establishments today as you are ‘House Captain’ tags. The times might have changed but the importance of School Badges has remained the same thankfully and they’re still an integral part of our learning culture.
It’d be a great shame if School Badges disappeared altogether but that doesn’t look like it’ll happen, people still value the importance of these items and understand what they can do for a child’s self esteem.
