It has been proven that access to technology, such as computers and cell phones, can help improve the quality of one's business life. Although many of us in the Western world are bombarded with messages about how we are constantly inundated with technology, and although there is a point where there is too much, technology has improved our lives greatly.

Amongst recent headlines have been reports of cheaper and cheaper technologies offered to third world countries, mainly in India. Back in 2008, India unveiled the cheapest car yet, the Tata Nano, for $2,500. Now the developers in India have done it again, offering a $35 tablet for students and teachers. Compared to the iPad (which sells for $499) and the new Kindle Fire (which will sell for $199), the Aakash will be significantly cheaper, giving the impoverished an opportunity for Internet access and change.
This is very good news for India, where the poverty rate is 55%. It has been proven that access to technology, such as computers and cell phones, can help improve the quality of one's business life. Although many of us in the Western world are bombarded with messages about how we are constantly inundated with technology, and although there is a point where there is too much, technology has improved our lives greatly. Business procedures run faster and more efficiently. Being able to call suppliers and keep in touch with shipments and arrival times helps business owners prepare and move inventory more quickly. Using computers to keep track of inventory also helps businesses see where expenses are going and where they need to make adjustments to their strategies.
For students and teachers, computers provide access to a plethora of information around the world, enabling them to contact experts, conduct research, and access countless resources at just the press of a button. With better education comes better opportunities; well-educated students of today become the savvy business leaders of tomorrow. We have witnessed that here in the Western world, so we have to ask - what will happen if the expense of technology goes beyond what we can afford?
With the recession and rising gas prices, expenses have risen in all areas. The middle class is shrinking and more and more Americans are living in poverty. One can't help but wonder if we will one day face the same situation that India is facing now. Will we ever get to that point? One can't say for sure, but it's clear something has to be done to curb the skyrocketing prices so that everyone has access to the necessary resources to climb the ladder and succeed. These days, without having access to the technology, society would crumble. And although this development is exclusive to India, it proves that technology can be created and distributed at a reasonable price, so if push comes to shove, we will find a way to adapt.
