6. Many limitations were placed on the kinds of risks that could be insured and the persons eligible for coverage.

7. There lacked enough expertise in the field of insurance, which made some players monopolize the sector.

The times have changed for better. The high literacy levels among the public has led to proper public awareness on the importance of insurance. High literacy levels have also brought about enough expertise in this sector of health, hence breaking the previously intolerable monopoly.

The amounts of premiums chargeable have been reduced, with an aim of inviting policy holders to certain insurance companies. Insurance companies have also come up with a wider range of risks that can be covered.

This has been diversified from the traditional individualism in coverage, to a whole family coverage perspective, making the dream of having an affordable family insurance become a reality. It entails a family bread winner being able to protect themselves as well as their families with a single insurance policy. The amount of premium to be paid, therefore, becomes less. This is as opposed to a situation where they would have to pay for each family member separately.

Having affordable health coverage is everyone’s wish. In respect to this, there are various considerations for policy holders, before they have to settle on particular insurance companies. This has kept many insurance companies on their toes, trying to come up with policies that are cheap and convenient for policy holders.
