Even though his movies were referred to as larger than life, his movies in Bollywood never failed to entertain the audience. He not only roped in stars of 3 generation but also ensured the commercial success of the movie Kabhie Khushi Kabhie Gham.
Dharma Productions has been producing a lot of mega hits in Hindi film industry. For several years, their films have attractive a huge number of people because their films are perfectly rendered stories with reputed star cast. The success at box office for each of their movies is a sign that people from various parts of the world have loved their films.Yash Johar established Dharma Productions Pvt Ltd in the year 1976.
Ever since its inception, the production house has been continuously producing blockbuster films. In 1980, they started their success journey with Dostana which had super star Amitabh Bachchan, intense Shatrughan Sinha and sexy Zeenat Aman. Roping in another set of well known stars, they produced Duniya in 1984 and this film also succeeded at the box office. They came up with stories which had a mix of drama, suspense, romance and sentimental sequences. They also produced films like Gumrah, Muqaddar Ka Faisla and Agneepath.
The high reputation of Dharma Productions reaching a new height was obvious and it gave way to a company home. In 1998, the concern produced Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, first venture of Karan Johar- son of Yash Johar- in the film industry. This movie was listed in UK Top 10, which happened for the first time in Bollywood. Hindi cinema's most charming couple, Shah Rukh and Kajol came together once again through this film. The film not only became the megahit of the year but it also got several awards in the national and international arena for the production and the star cast.
His efforts were fruitful when this movie met with success in the country and abroad. The film became the highest grossing film in UK and US in the year 2001.Kal Ho Na Ho and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, both films from Karan, were also appreciated. The screenplay written for the movie Kal Ho Na Ho has been kept in the library of Motion Images for reference. Dharma Productions have made films like Wake Up Sid and Dostana with young artists of Bollywood and Kurbaan and My Name Is Khan, with some of the much adored stars like Kajol, Shah Rukh Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan. Dharma Productions Pvt Ltd owns the credit of producing some of the best films in Hindi film industry.
