About Motorcycle Battery Chargers and Replacement MotoBatt Batteries

The MotoBatt batteries in your motorcycle may get little attention during winter. This could cause your power cells to die or malfunction sooner than it should. Leaving your motorcycle in one corner for long periods of time can ruin your battery. If your bike refuses to start, try using motorcycle battery chargers to power up the cells.

Don’t use a regular battery recharger but one that is specifically made for motorcycle cells. Using the wrong kind of charger will ruin your power cells. You should recharge your motorcycle if you notice the lights getting dimmer or if you leave your motorcycle parked for about 2 weeks. The cells will automatically discharge if left unused for over a week.

To recharge your MotoBatt batteries, remove the cell from your bike. Wear gloves and safety glasses to protect yourself from acidic and toxic chemicals in the battery. Unscrew the chamber caps to refill the cells with de-ionized water. Do not use tap water because the impurities might ruin the battery. Leave the caps off after you refill them with water to allow excess toxic gases to escape.

You should also check the tubes and caps. The vent tubes may be blocked and the cap may not be able to hold itself securely to the battery. A simple lose connection may be the reason your cells are not charging properly. Check these connections first before charging your cells or buying new replacement MotoBatt batteries.

Back to recharging, use motorcycle battery chargers only to recharge your power cell. Make sure the old cell is cool to the touch and the charger is turned off. Plug the charger to a wall socket and connect the cables to the positive and negative terminals.

Switch the charger on and leave it overnight. Extend charging time if your cells are completely discharged. Switch of and unplug the charger when the battery is full. Replace the caps on the filling chambers and reconnect the battery to your motorcycle.

You will see the power cell enclosed in a plastic cover. Get rid of the plastic cover by sliding it out from the front of the gas tank. Once the plastic covering is removed you might see screws that secure the battery to the bike.

Use your Phillips screwdriver to remove the screws. Remove the rubber strap that’s holding down your battery. Slide out the cell and out it aside. Remember to dispose of your old batteries safely and properly later on. Slide in your replacement MotoBatt Batteries into the empty slot where you took the old battery from. Set it safely and securely in place.

Replace the rubber safety strap and return the connection cords and put the screws back on. Make sure you matched the positive and negative connections correctly. Positive connection should be colored red while the negative cord should be in black.

After you’re done replacing all the connections and the rubber strap, you can place the motorcycle seat back on the bike. When you take your motorcycle out, you will notice a bit more power and brighter headlights.
