What’s the main function of an air conditioner? It’s not a trick question. What does an air conditioner do? It provides you with cooling power and during the hottest times of the year it can be a real saviour. Slip behind the wheel of your car on a boiling summer’s day and you can’t wait to switch the air conditioner on. It might take a few minutes but once you feel that refreshing, ice cold breeze, it feels absolutely heavenly. Modern office blocks, retail outlets, schools and public buildings all have air conditioning systems fitted. It’s little wonder when you see the large glazing that is fitted as part of new developments, letting sunlight direct into buildings.

An air conditioner to keep you warm

If someone said to you they were going to use their air conditioner in the heart of winter you might think they’d lost the plot. Why would you need the cooling power of an air conditioner when the temperatures are plummeting outside? You wouldn’t of course. Some ait conditioner units have heat pumps built into them and they can provide ample levels of heat in colder climates. You get two machines for the price of one when you buy an air conditioner that also has a heat pump built into it. During the summer the air conditioner stops you from melting and in the winter it can stop you from freezing to death. If someone says they’ll be switching their air conditioner on this winter, treat them with the respect that they deserve.

Fans are fine

They are to some extent, but if you want to benefit from total cooling power this summer, you’d be much better off using an air conditioner. Fans simply blow in your face, they waft warm air around; they don’t acclimatise the air that is around you. Switch on an air conditioner and it helps you to feel fresh, unaware of the temperature outside. Stay cool this year using an air conditioner. Models are available that can be fitted at home, in your office, or other place of work. Buy a combination air conditioner that has a heat pump built into it and you can stay warm in the winter, cool in the summer, and only have to shell out for one machine.
