Before you buy a new pair of trainers, you should know about the different types of sneakers and how to select the right pair.

Different Types Of Trainers

Walking Shoes

Sneakers that are meant for daily use, brisk-walking, and light exercises come under the category of walking shoes. These shoes provide comfort, cushioning, and protect your feet from an injury due to impact. Some important things to look for in a walking shoe are:

Flexibility - Flexibility is very important in a walking shoe. You should choose a shoe that is flexible so that it can bend and twist easily. If the shoe is rigid, it can cause an injury to your foot, as foot rolls from heel to toe while walking.

Fit - Choose a shoe that fits in snugly. Your heels should fit well into the shoe. However, make sure that there is at least some free space, around one-fourth of an inch, between your toe and shoe.

Heels - For walking, you should select a shoe with flat heels that are not flared. Low heels with less flare give momentum to foot while walking, which reduces the impact on your foot.

Weight - Choose a lightweight shoe for walking. Do not make your feet work harder by wearing heavy shoes.

Running Shoes

Whether running is a part of your exercise program or you are a professional runner, you should have proper running trainers to protect your feet.

You should select a running shoe depending on your foot type. There are three types of foot - flat, normal and high arched. You can easily identify your foot type from its imprint. If your foot leaves the full imprint, it means you have a low-arch or flat foot. If the imprint shows a normal or broad arch, this means you have a normal foot. If the imprint has a high arch, meaning there is a very narrow band that connects the heel with the toe, you have a high-arched foot.

For flat foot type, stability and motion control shoes are the best. The shoe should have good mid-sole support. For high arched foot type, shoes that are flexible with good cushioning are recommended. For normal foot type, stability shoes are the best.

Cross-Trainers

If your exercise program consists of a wide range of activities like walking, running, weight training, and aerobics, you should consider buying cross-trainers as they are all-purpose shoes. Most cross training shoes have medium cushioning at mid-soles and foot. Opting for shoes made of breathable material is recommended so that your feet can breathe during extensive workouts or sports.

Buying shoes for running, walking, or sports is not difficult. There are several reputed brand names, like Asic shoes and New Balance shoes that sell quality and trendy sneakers. Whichever shoe type you want, you should buy it only during the later part of the day, as feet tend to swell by evening time. Also, it is best to get your feet measured by a professional in order to buy the right pair of trainers.
