Despite being more expensive than a lot of its high-end rivals, it has still managed to come out successful.
This year, the company has reportedly sold over 56 million iPhones around the world. That's a lot of units of the 3G S, 4, and 4S in the hands of millions of its cult followers. According to a renowned analyst, this figure is about to spike by 100% be the end of the year.
This analyst is Katy Huberty of Morgan Stanley. In the past, she has been conservative about her forecasts concerning Apple. However, this is no longer the case. She predicts that there will be approximately 100 million iPhones sold by the end of the year.
Huberty's predictions are not limited to 2011. She has also predicted the company's sales performance in 2012. She predicts that there will be approximately 200 million Apple smartphones sold by next year. Is this possible? It's definitely feasible. After all, its latest handset was a huge success.
When the iPhone 4S was officially unveiled last October, many thought that it would fail to sell. However, these predictions failed to considers the loyalty of Apple's cult following. Many thought that the 4S had a smaller display compared to its competitors. Furthermore, it comes with a 1 GHz dual-core processor when its high-end rivals sported 1.2 GHz dual-core processor. Despite this, the smartphone sold 4 million units in the first three days it went on sale. These sales figures have beaten every sales record the company made with the iPhone 4.
You may be thinking 56 million to 100 million is a large gap to fill. However, Christmas is on the horizon. This means that Apple will be benefiting from the holiday spending spree. This means an overwhelming number of smartphones in the hands of shoppers.
However, there are still a large number of consumers who held back on getting their hands on Apple's current model. There was a lot of hype about the company's 5th generation smartphone sporting a larger display and more powerful processor. Since the firm is known for breaking previous sales record after every new release, we're sure this rumored handset will do the same. Coupled with the success of the iPhone 4S, it is likely that Apple will sell 200 million in 2012.
