Analysis of a new viscometer in the form of an oscillating plate, made of silicon, using the methods of micro-electro-mechanical-systems (MEMS) is considered. The instrument is designed primarily for experimental use in the oil industry. The plate is 1.6 mm wide, 2.4 mm long and 20µm thick. It is suspended from a support of 0.4 mm thick by 48 feet square, each of length of 0.5 mm in width and depth of 20µm. The lithography process is used to deposit layers on top of the silicone. These layers can be formed in the resistance and metal tracks. The tracks pass through the support legs to provide connections between the plate and the external electronics. The oscillating plate is a mechanical device that can be moved by the force produced by the interaction between an electric current flowing through the plate and an externally applied magnetic field.

The viscometer can be operated either forced or transient state, and is intended to be used in both Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids. The viscometer movements analyzed for incompressible fluids, using the Navier-Stokes equations to model the flow of a Newtonian viscous fluid and a viscoelastic fluid where the stress is modeled by a reduced form of Maxwell's equations.

Variety of applications support µVISC (TM) (micro Visc) uses VROC ® (rheometer viscometer on a chip) with SC chip that supports rank test viscosity of 20,000 mPas or more. Tests can be completed within 1 minute with 3 stages, and menus of applications allows users to graph the results and generate reports. Specific applications include the testing and evaluation of materials such as inks, organic chemicals, oils and other liquids.

Measure high viscosity is a breeze with µVISC (TM)

The new MEMS-based paradigm for managing the flow of liquid

RheoSense, Inc. has launched a new viscometer, µVISC (TM) (micro viscosity), the last major VROC ® products. HC, the last chip to test ranges higher viscosity up to 20,000 mPas or more.

HC The new chip, this provides an effective tool for quick and easy measurements of viscosity, and now supports a wider range of applications. This combination of technical requirements of industry support for tighter quality control and rapid and timely decision-making process.

With a simple operation step 1-2-3, the tests are completed in a minute. With easy to use software application menus, the user can view graphs of the results and generate a report at the touch of a finger.

µVISC (TM) is an important tool for portable test and evaluation of materials such as inks, pharmaceuticals, biological, chemical, oil and other liquids.

VROC ® is a registered trademark of RheoSense, Inc., an acronym for Viscometer Rheometer-on-a-chip. He is the only chip-based viscometer. The measuring principle applied is well known for simplicity and accuracy in the field of rheology and described in most textbooks rheology. Some methods of ISO also adopt the basic principle.
