Anyone who plays streetball knows it’s all about your signature basketball moves. Of course, winning is also important, but establishing a reputation at your home court is a lot of fun. You want to be the guy no one wants to guard, the one that gives opponents fits.
Anyone who plays streetball knows it's all about your signature basketball moves. Of course, winning is also important, but establishing a reputation at your home court is a lot of fun. You want to be the guy no one wants to guard, the one that gives opponents fits. There are a few moves that can help you get there. And these moves aren't based on what type of player you are. When it comes to streetball, you need to be able to play every role. Guards need to know how to post-up and centers need to know how to drain a three. That's just the way it is on the streets. If you can't handle it, sorry. Don't play.

Okay, let's cover some basic moves first. One is the up and under. This is a post-up move. Establish position deep on the right side. Once you have the ball, head fake toward the paint, which will send your defender soaring to block a shot. Keep the ball and come back around the outside for an easy lay-up. For the next move, let's stay in that same post-up position. Once you receive the ball, turn your head toward the basket from the outside, establish depth and range, and shoot a sky mini-hook. This move is a lot of fun because no matter how short or tall you are, once you master it, no one can block it. People watch in awe. It's also very frustrating for defenders. Just be sure to pass out of the post once in a while to keep defenders honest. A third move from the post is the wraparound reverse. Back up into your defender and give a little bump to put him off balance. Then, use your free hand to gently wrap around his body. Using this momentum, dribble under the basket and complete a reverse lay-up.

If you're around the foul line, there are a lot of great moves to learn. One of the best is the shoot-pause-dribble. In other words, make it look as though you're about to shoot by bringing the ball up with your palm turned sideways. Pause like you're about to shoot. Then, continue dribbling and drive by your defender with ease. There is a fine line here between a legal move and a carry, so it requires much practice. But once you get it, it's nasty. Another great move at the foul line is a hard single dribble in and pullback jump shot. If you do this right, your defender will be way off balance.

These are just a few basketball moves that can take your streetball reputation and legacy to the next level.
