The term business process model is a diagrammatic representation of different activities of an organization. The main aim in creating a business process model is to improve the work flow within an organization.

Creating a business process model is essential in the effective functioning of an organization. Business Process is often referred to as a compilation of activities designed to produce a specific output for a customer or market. This also gives emphasis on how work is done within an organization. Thus process refers to an accurate flow of work with an input, output and an exact structure for it. Business Process Model (BPM) often helps a business analyst or manager to check out the efficiency and quality.
Several methodologies have been adopted for preparing business process models. The diagrammatic representation of business process modeling is often referred to as a "notation". Earlier the business process model was created using a pen and a paper but in today 's world the technology has gone so ahead that even soft wares have been designed to create a Business Process Model.

Several business process modeling tools are available for creating an effective business process model.
A business process model of an organization generally includes the core aspects of business like infrastructure, strategies, organizational structure etc. As this portrays the architecture of the whole organization, this would help the management team to explore the possibilities for future development. Every business process model should have a clear idea on what the process is going to achieve. Keeping this in mind the construction of a business process model would be easy.
Business process model helps an organization in structuring its process and work flow and helps to have a complete analysis on the work flow.
