This situation has led to many people saving a lot of money on their medication. It has, unfortunately, also drawn a number of con artists to the industry. The fact that many online pharmacies use an affiliate system and that many of these affiliates send out thousands of spam emails have also created a negative image about the industry in the minds of many people. An even worse situation is that some unscrupulous online pharmacies have, in the past, sold contact details of their clients to third parties.
Another problem that started rearing its ugly head is that, because it is difficult to establish the location of a website, some people outside Canada have set up websites claiming to sell Canadian drugs, while in fact they were selling drugs from Asia or Eastern Europe. Some of these drugs do not comply with international quality standards, and can even be dangerous to your health.
An even worse problem that occurs from time to time is that unscrupulous operators open a website offering to sell 'Canadian' medicine to patients who do not have a valid doctor's prescription. They will normally claim that they have a qualified doctor on their staff who will provide the prescription you need. This is always an illegitimate scheme and buying prescription medicine without a doctor having prescribed it is not only illegal, but you can cause your own or somebody else's death in this way.
Fortunately CIPA came to the rescue. The Canadian International Pharmacy Association has now established a licensing system for Canadian pharmacies operating online. This means that a pharmacy that displays the CIPA logo on their website has been thoroughly scrutinized to make sure that they adhere to the strictest standards of ethics.
Medicines dispatched by a CIPA member will always be in their original container with tamper- proof seals. A medical doctor will first study your medical record and your prescription before the order can be dispatched. Controlled or banned substances will not be shipped, even if the patient has a valid doctor's prescription.
This means that whenever you see the CIPA logo displayed on a website, you can be sure that the company is, in fact, located in Canada, that it sells Canadian medicine and that it follows international standards of ethics when dealing with its customers. A CIPA member will never offer to sell you prescription medicine without a valid doctor's prescription.
