There is nothing like the feel of a warm wool rug under your feet as you step out of your bed onto the floor first thing in the morning. We haven’t had much of a summer and as the autumn approaches there is already a little bit of a chill in the air.
There is nothing like the feel of a warm wool rug under your feet as you step out of your bed onto the floor first thing in the morning. We haven’t had much of a summer and as the autumn approaches there is already a little bit of a chill in the air. You can feel it especially first thing in the morning as you get up for work. A warming rug on your floor makes that moment when you get out of bed that little bit easier on a dark morning.

Choosing the right colour for your bedroom is important in setting the right atmosphere. A bedroom is a place where you need to relax and the colour of the wool rug you choose is important. It must tone in with your walls, either reflecting or complementing their shades. If your wall is in a light shade then a darker shade of the same colour looks good on the floor, especially if your wool rug is a large one. Alternatively if the colour of your wall is dark, then a lighter shade on the floor will look good. A bedroom rug doesn’t get the same wear and tear as some other places so a light coloured rug is more practical here. Colours which are too bright and vivid should be avoided as your bedroom is the place to relax and sleep. Good calming colours include shades of green and blue. Bright reds and yellow, though they look good when you walk through the door, may be less relaxing last thing at night when you are trying to switch off and go to sleep. Bright purple is another colour to be avoided, though some shades of purple can be more calming than others.

A bit of an exception to the rule about calming colours applies to the teenager’s bedroom. The typical teenager will use his or her bedroom as a work area and also for part of their social life. Most teenagers have a television and a computer in their bedroom, and will spend a lot of time in there. A wool rug on the floor looks best in a bright, up to date design which the teenager should choose themselves. Colour is not so important here as many teenager’s want their rooms to be bright with posters of their favourites on the wall, so any attempt at colour co-ordination may well be wasted. It is best just to choose a wool rug that the teenager will enjoy while sitting on the floor or just under foot.

Texture, colour and design are all important in the bedroom. Avoid large patterns on your wool rugs unless you have a good eye for design. These can look good with plain walls but you need to be able to imagine what they will look like. A subtle pattern is usually easier on the eye. I particularly like wool rugs with a textured pattern for the bedroom, as this adds interest without being over powering. Fortunately wool rugs come in many variations so you can pick and choose the one which suits you.
