Companies involved in catalog mailing have been a target of high postage costs and strict regulations. This may be the cause why there is a decline in the usage of this method for catalogs. Direct mail catalogs have always been an efficient way of introducing your product or line of business to target demographics. Since it is efficient, there are still companies employing this kind of method for sending their catalogs.

Though there are some who continued using this method, a large number have declined posting their catalogs. For some companies who solely rely on this tactic, it would be very difficult to keep up with the fast increasing rates. Before you know it, you have spent a great amount on the postages more than what you are earning in terms of your sales. With the surging increase on rates, how do you make sure that you still send out your catalogs but accomplish your desired result? Here is how to do it.

Employ another marketing tool. It is as easy as that. Do you know that you can send out postcards first? Less postage fee but serves the right purpose. By first identifying your target group, it would be easy to send out those cards. You may include perforations or return form which will signal you if a customer is interested to receive catalogs from you. This is one way of saving on the cost of postage fees. Since postcards are not that heavy as compared to catalogs, the rates may have a big difference. In that way, you get to identify the right customer. Upon receiving the return or request form, you may start sending out the catalogs about your products and services. This tactic is especially benefiting companies because there is a possibility that sending out catalogs to uninterested customers may leave the catalogs unopened therefore at that point of time, you already lost money for your company not because the consumer is not getting it but consider the cost of printing and mailing those catalogs which
ended up not being used. You may say that people do not respond to postcards all the time too, but as compared to catalogs, sending off postcards cost less.

It is equally important that you send out the necessary catalogs to all consumers who are requesting for it. You may keep track of this using a specialized list which includes the mailing list and the list of customers who have responded to the postcards.

In this world where the only constant is change, the important thing is to keep up or you will eventually be left behind. If direct mail catalogs are your company’s forte, by all means go for it. But before giving it your all, consider other options that would help you make your catalog mailing method effective and less costly. By considering other marketing tools to complement with catalogs, you do not lessen the efficiency of your current marketing tool rather you double it by generating more sales for your company. This being said, you should now have an idea that indeed, sending out catalogs to customers doesn’t have to cost much. And again, you can do that by employing postcards at first to identify interested customers and then sending out catalogs only to them. Less cost for mailing means more profit for your company.
