Dell Streak Unveiled for Rs. 34,990 in India

Finally Dell has launched in Indian market its smartphone-tablet device Streak. The much awaited tablet-smartphone has followed a prominent pricing policy by declaring its selling price as Rs. 34,900.

The much awaited tablet-smartphone has followed a prominent pricing policy by declaring its selling price as Rs. 34,900. The model is available along with Tata DoCoMo post paid connection with 500MB data connection usage for the first six months absolutely free. This unique device is loaded with 5-inch multi-touch supporting capacitive display. Running Android 1.6 mobile op, the Dell Streak is expected to get Android 2.2 Froyo update before the end of this year.

The sudden arrival of Streak phone in the Indian markets will certainly throw the vibrations of concern to Samsung Galaxy Tab's launch which is due within a month or so from now. Dell Streak is certainly going to enjoy the first mover advantage at the time when Apple iPad and the freshly announced Samsung Galaxy Tab are preparing to enter the market. Dell streak is known for the striking features in every new launch supported by by high quality performance. The 5-inch capacitive multi-touch supporting Gorilla glass screen offers 800x480 pixel resolution.

Gorilla glass screen will keep the screen scratch free. Dell has implemented ultra-intelligent facial proximity along with ambient light sensors which can auto-adjust the screen brightness and can alter the battery life accordingly. The Dell Streak accommodates 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8250 processor with 512MB ROM and 512MB SDRAM. For the shutterbugs, the model carries 5 MP auto focus camera with double LED flash. VGA front facing camera is also added. The phone will also have 2GB internal storage capacity that is used only for file system and OS. Surprisingly, Dell Streak runs Android 1.6 but the company has promised to release Android 2.2 Froyo for it soon.

Last month, UK based Dell Streak owners received Android 2.1 update having following applications: Sharp 5-inch capacitive multi-touch Gorilla glass WVGA (800 480) display,VGA front-facing camera enables video chat functionality down the road, 5 MP auto focus camera with dual LED flash, User-removable (and replaceable) battery, 1GHz Snapdragon ARM-based mobile processor from Qualcomm, UMTS / GPRS / EDGE class 12 GSM radio with link speeds of HSDPA 7.2 Mbps / HSUPA, 3.5mm headphone jack, Integrated 3G + Wi-Fi (802.11b/g) + Bluetooth 2.1 (think headsets, external keyboards, stereo headsets, etc.), and Micro SD slot expandable up to 32GB. Its still not sure if Streak will offer turn-by-turn directions with Street View through Google Maps app in India.

Special offer for Tata DoCoMo Post Paid account holders in which they will get 500MB free per month data usage for the first six months. Dell is all set for pre booking at Dell Exclusive Stores, Tata DoCoMo Dive In Centers and authorized retailers. Now the question is, will Samsung Galaxy and Apple iPad tablets be able to withstand the competitive edge created by Dell Streak. As of now,its said that the price of 7-inch display bearing Galaxy Tab would be somewhere around Rs. 35,000 to Rs. 40,000. It is assumed that the Apple iPad might be launched officially for a higher price than that in India. Even though, there are no signals of Apple iPad's official launch in India, it is available for about Rs. 32,000 to Rs. 36,000 for the 16GB Wi-Fi model.
